Sweet Beer Bread

This slightly sweet bread is delicious toasted with butter.

American lager or pale ales are a good option. Stouts or India Pale Ales will generally be too flavorful for this recipe. The goal is to have a moderate amount of bitterness from the beer to counter the sweetness of the bread.

Ingredients Directions

  • 3 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 13 oz beer (yeah, 13 oz)
  • 4 tbsp butter melted
  • Butter to grease the bread pan

  1. Preheat oven to 375°f.
  2. Grease a standard loaf pan with butter.
  3. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and beer until they just come together. Agitate as little as possible to limit gluten creation.
  4. Transfer batter to the pan.
  5. Pour 4 tbsp of melted butter over the top.
  6. Bake for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
